Reader Friendly: RWBY #1

Whoa, a non-Bendis comic book review. Shocking I know. RWBY is, in my opinion, a pretty great show, good characters, animation and writing. The main premise is about Team RWBY (Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xaio Long) a team of teenagers who fight monsters and learning about the mystery of their world. It's also very popular and in the tradition of Star Wars, Sonic, Star Trek and any other nerd franchises there will be comics written about them and guess what I'm reviewing? I'm mostly doing this because I'm a fan of the series and I made a video review of the first series or volume of the show two years ago for a college project. So this comic is a digital exclusive comic, meaning that in the physical release that it's actually two stories for the price of one, so if you read the physical copy the pacing seems to meet a sudden abrupt change of gears. The first stories, is basically a recap of the first volumes, this serves as an introduction for new readers and a way to tell the audience when it's set. This comic is written by Marguerite Bennett, a pretty good writer who is the current writer for Batwoman and has written issues of Batgirl back during the New 52, especially a tie-in involving a young Barbara and the second story of this issue reminded me of that issue. Bennett has a handle of young woman characters and the second story is a little sweet story with a young Ruby and Yang. It's sweet and I loved how it involved a certain character.

In short it's a pretty decent start. The art by Mirka Andolfo is also very nice to look at, very fairy tale like which is fitting. Check it out if your a fan of the show, if your not it does a good job to keep you up to speed, but watch a couple episodes first beforehand or you'll be lost..
