Reader Friendly: Event Leviathan #5

When we last left off, Lois Lane ditched her team of detectives (Batman, Robin, Green Arrow, Plastic Man, Vic Sage Question and Manhunter) for a new different team (Zatanna, Elongated Man, John Constantine, Deathstroke, Renee Montoya Question and Harvey Bullock). Which leads into the penultimate issue of the event series which is fine.

So one of the main problems I have with this event series is that it's mostly characters just standing around going "Is this person Leviathan, no, then this person" while all the interesting beats, fight scenes and plot advancement is pushed aside in flashbacks. This issue was different, but it also felt rushed. One of the things I felt was that the new team of detectives we introduced wasn't really fleshed out and a bit more rushed, I honestly feel like if Bendis had gotten more issues he could've spent an entire issue, same thing with the introudcution of Talia al Ghul at the end, it's too early to tell, but if the series got more issues then she would've had a good time to bring in her side of the story.

But pushing past the negatives let's look at the positives. I loved the scene with the leader of Leviathan and Superman, it's mostly Leviathan given the "the human race doesn't trust you" spiel and Superman, incorruptible man he is basically staring him down with silent disapproval. Bendis is a controversial writer but I do like his characterisation of Superman and how it keeps cutting back to Damian figuring out who Leviathan actually is and how it tied back to a plot point from the last issue. Which was cool. The next issue is it's last and I'm interested to see how this ends.
